False Appearance. While motionless, the mnemon is indistinguishable from a black surface.

Mind Sense. The mnemon knows the location of all creatures within 180 feet that understand a language.

Ooze Nature. The mnemon doesn’t require air or sleep


ACTIONS

Multiattack. The mnemon makes up to 3 pseudopod attacks against different creatures.

Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage plus 9 (2d8) acid damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 13). Until this grapple ends, the target is covered with ooze. While covered with ooze, a target is restrained, can’t breathe or speak, and takes 9 (2d8) ongoing acid damage. The mnemon can’t attack a creature it is already grappling.

If a creature that understands a language is killed while grappled by this attack, the mnemon gains the creature’s memories.

With a History or Survival check, characters can learn the following:

DC 15 Watch for black floors! Mnemons are ooze creatures that can disguise themselves as smooth black surfaces.

DC 20 Mnemons use telepathic trickery to lure their victims. Mnemons devour a creature’s mind, and are sometimes willing to trade secrets.

Description

A mnemon is an intelligent black ooze that traps and kills sentient creatures, psionically consuming their memories. Cunning hunters, mnemons use telepathy to entice unsuspecting humanoids into their clutches.

Behavior

1 Disguised as a pool of black liquid: telepathically pretending to be a creature trapped inside the pool

2 Disguised as a black stone floor: telepathically claiming to be a traveler in trouble beyond the floor

3 Waiting in ambush on ceiling or wall

4 Undisguised: offering valuable secrets to those who approach
